A name that lasted a single season. A Florentia Viola pennant from Mateusz Weiland’s collection: 19 × 27 cm, red giglio and gold fringe.
A brief name. A long road back.
Florentia Viola. Two words from a time when Florence had to start again. There is no league table or match score on this pennant. Its name alone takes us back to 2002/03, when the club was rebuilding in Serie C2.
This is the first object shared in the ViolaPedia collection. A piece from my own shelves, and a small step towards a bigger ambition: a museum of the Viola in Poland.

A closer look
A triangular pennant with gold fringe and a hanging cord. The pale field carries a red giglio, the words “FLORENTIA VIOLA” and a football near the pointed end. Red and dark-blue borders echo its shape. These details deserve a full view, rather than a photograph cropped into a square.
Why the name matters
In summer 2002, after the previous company collapsed, football in Florence was rebuilt in Italy’s fourth tier. Florentia Viola won promotion from Serie C2 in spring 2003. The rights to Fiorentina’s historic name and emblem were recovered in May. Memorabilia preserves the name of that short, important chapter.
This history helps place the object in the club’s story. The inscription alone does not establish the production date of this particular pennant; further documentation would be needed.
